Our artists

Local Downeast artist works will be included in the bi-monthly offering of signed

and numbered art prints featured on this website and in Yankee Magazine.

In the coming months and years, the Board of Directors of Downeast Artists will identify selected Maine area artists for participation in our not-for-profit program. Following our requirements these gifted artists will submit their paintings to help Downeast Artists Inc. raise funds to help families that have children with disabilities.

Sarma Taylor

Sarma M. Taylor is the daughter of a native Latvian woman, Zenta Taylor, whose family escaped the ravages of World War II as refugees and eventually settled in the New York City area. Raised to fluently speak the Latvian language and appreciate the special Latvian culture, Sarma went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Boston University and her master’s degree in art history from the University of St. Thomas in Houston. Being a talented artist and creative jewelry and metal artist, Sarma has developed her own line of custom-made gold and silver jewelry. She has painted numerous engaging American landscapes, still lifes and portraits in oil on her hand-stretched canvases.

Originally a New Englander and now living in Maine, Ms. Taylor resides in the coastal village of Steuben, Maine. She is inspired by the dramatic Maine landscape and contributes her art to the local community.
